Meet Jay y'all! Jay is not only a very talented photographer, but is part of our IgAustinTexas crew. His creative eye enriches our feed by featuring images of local creatives he finds interesting. If you haven't seen his work yet. We highly recommend you visit his website. Jay primarily focuses on street photography and portraiture, but whats great about Jay is that he's able to bind both styles in a unique way. He's imagery carries a sense of authenticity that goes beyond the person he's photographing and engulfs the space in which the photograph is taken at. Read more about Jay below and follow his adventures on Instagram.

Hey, Jay 👋🏼. What is your Instagram handle so peeps can follow you?

How long have you lived in Austin? 🗺
I've lived here for a good chunk of my life. I'd say since somewhere around 2011-2012.

How did you first find out about IGAustinTexas?
I think I first heard about IGAustinTexas on Instagram. If I remember correctly, I met everybody at a meet put on by an IG account called One by One or something like that a few years ago. Ever since then, I'd go to meets and got familiar with everybody involved.

How do you define community? 🌱
I think community is a group of likeminded people who are willing to help each other grow. People who will give you constructive criticism and tips when its needed, and are happy to watch each other grow.

What keeps you making photos and taking snapshots for the gram?
I've just kind of gotten used to it. Some days when I haven't left the house to get at least one photo I get restless and feel like I'm being lazy or not doing enough. Nothing beats the feeling of having that shot in mind and executing it, especially when they come out better.

What are you most passionate about and why?
I can be passionate about a lot of things at any time. I could talk your ear off about movies, music or video games, but the thing that always stays consistent is photography.

What are you up to now?
Mostly just trying to keep myself busy. Working on getting more of my photos in the hands of people instead of on screens. Thinking either books or zines. We'll have to see though.
